Mental or Psychological Illness is not given much Importance

Unlike physical illness, mental or psychological illness is not given much importance in the society because of a stigma attached to it. Though the world is gradually coming to terms with the seriousness of the issue prevalent across the region, but even the experts believe that it is still a long way to go before mental health is taken as seriously as physical health. Depression is one of the leading psychological problems as researches suggest as everyone will go one or another form of depression by 2020. United Nations even dedicated the World Health Day in 2017 toward this particular mental illness under the theme of “Depression: Let’s Talk”.

Unlike physical ailments which are treated via medicines, the mental illness do not necessary follow the same protocol. But patients expect to be treated via medication as it has developed, due to obvious reasons, as the effective way of dealing when anything is wrong with the body. While the habit of consulting a counselor must be encouraged in general when faced with such issues, with respect to depression, simple acts like good sleep followed by physical exercise in the morning and taking a healthy breakfast can work in overcoming the problem. Medication should only be last resort in the most severe cases.
